About

Park Square, located at 151 Bay Street, Ottawa is officially known in municipal and provincial records as Carleton Condominium Corporation No. 145 or CCC145. It is situated in Ottawa’s centretown on the east side of Bay Street between Albert Street (to the south) and Queen Street (to the north).

Neighbouring condominiums include The Queen Elizabeth Towers, The Gardens, Cathedral Hill, the Bowery and most recently the Claridge Moon. Nearby are the Hilton Garden Inn, the Holiday Inn, Radisson Hotel, the Delta Hotel and the Ottawa Marriot. Within walking distance are The Supreme Court, the War Museum, Parliament Hill, the National Arts Center, Adisoke – the future Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada joint facility and shops, restaurants and amenities in the heart of the government and business district. It is quite literally, a few steps away from the Lyon Station of the new Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) Confederation Line.

Built in 1976 by William Teron of Urbanetics, it was the first in Ottawa to use wind tunnel studies to assess the effects of downdrafts and to determine the building’s configuration. Consisting of 13 stories, the two- and three-bedroom layouts all contain diagonal walls. Despite this irregularity, the symmetrical organization of brick silo towers and bands of balconies bring the whole energetic mass under control. The resulting design was  “brown-brick brutalism” with raw concrete edges softened in earth tones. The podium and its surrounding garden beds create a park-like ambience, a small oasis in an urban setting.
